What services do you offer?

We offer consumers an active lifestyle generator, an app that will schedule physical activity personalized for you and optimized for adherence to simplify integrating physical activity into your week. Our MVP helps customers find places to go in their area that matches their interests.

What do you enjoy most about your work?

The mission is motivating. Physical inactivity is a major problem and using the tech that has exacerbated that problem to ameliorate it is engaging. I also love the team we’ve built to create it and the opportunity to touch every part of the business and tie everything together to push our strategy forward.

What inspired you to start your business?

I’ve made a career out of building habit-forming apps for the biggest TV broadcasters in the world. Ultimately, I started to see how this was having devastating ripple effects on society. However, I still really believe in the power of habit-forming apps so I looked for a habit that I felt the world needed help with establishing, and getting physically active was an obvious one. According to the WHO, physical inactivity is the 4th leading cause of death in the world. It’s a problem my former work contributed to and something I often struggle with myself. I started my career with a focus on health and wanted to get back to it, so after considerable market research and building a team to execute on it, the vision of Spot was formed.

What gets you out of bed every morning?

The opportunity to do well by doing good with people I love. I believe in the power of ripple effects, the importance of physical activity for holistic health, the power of habit-forming apps, and the potential for growth when harnessing network effects. This combination is very exciting.

What is your secret to making progress each day?

Persistence. Also, I know I have to lead by example and so I can’t take my foot of the gas.

Tell us one thing people don’t know about you.

I spent a month in the Bolivian rainforest taking care of a formerly abused Puma helping reintegrate her into the wild.

A typical weekend for me is…

I have a 4 year old son and a 1 year daughter, so lots of kids activity, working the nights on Spot, and usually at least one Spot-related daytime activity (e.g. an event at a park).

What will people get from your business that they won’t get anywhere else?

For users – a center of gravity. Right now, if you would do more than one thing to get physically active (most of our users choose 4 or more), you have to download multiple apps. Additionally, between finding places, events, and people – most of the market splits those into different apps as well. People want things to be easy and centralized.

For businesses – a lead generation tool where you only have to pay for results. No more paying for empty impressions you can’t clearly see the results for.

Have you won any awards or had any special recognition or acknowledgement of your business?

We won “Best Experience Award” at the 2022 Orlando Synapse Tech Conference.

What are your plans for the future of your business?

  • Raise funds and build the monetization features and additional use-cases (things to do, people to meet)
  • Integrate data science to build personalized recommendations optimized for adherence
  • Roll out nationally
  • Exit by 2029

What’s your secret talent no one knows about?

My four year old would say I’m pretty amazing with a light saber.

What did you want to be when growing up?

An inventor.

What is your favorite thing to do in the wonderful area of Central Florida?

Take the kids to new places, especially in nature.

What would people never guess you do in your role?

Maybe the analytics. Most CEOs are more the sales type. I’m a product person by background and still love the analytics.

What do you love most about your industry?

The benefits of physical health on the body are obvious to most people, but I believe it has a deep impact on mental and emotional health and also far-reaching social benefits.

How have you advanced professionally since starting your business?

I’ve gotten better at presentations and understanding what matters to investors.
