Orlando Incubator client sending its emergency identification system offshore
Orlando, Fla. (July 21, 2025) – A local startup looking to save lives in remote locations has set its sights on helping individuals on the high seas.
Scan ID 365, a client of the UCF Business Incubation Program in Orlando, has signed a partnership agreement with Ft. Lauderdale-based American Yacht Agents. Under this agreement, Scan ID 360 will develop a Maritime Edition of its emergency identification system and American Yacht Agents will provide distribution support to its international network of agents.
“This type of partnership is an important step for our company and just the first of many such partnerships,” says Daniel White, CEO, Scan ID 365. “The opportunities for our system are endless, as nearly every person we talk to asks about a different use for our technology. I find it fascinating that our first partner is in an industry we didn’t think about when we first started.”
Scan ID 365 came out of an incident that White and his friends experienced while riding dirt bikes. One rider had an accident and was unconscious. When emergency personnel arrived, they asked about his medical history. No one knew how to answer.
White and his partners worked to find a solution and started Scan ID 365 to help.
The public-facing side is simple. It’s a sticker with a QR code and Safety ID that first responders can use to access the patient’s emergency info, medical records and other documents. Behind the scenes is a robust program to store those records securely, abiding by HIPAA standards.
The first use case the team thought of was from their personal experiences and they targeted the dirt bike industry. Other uses became apparent too, such as the elderly, hikers, hunters and other extreme sports enthusiasts.
With more than 100,000 crew members working on private yachts worldwide, the collaboration not only highlights innovation in crew safety but it helps the industry prepare for onboard medical incidents in remote or international waters where traditional systems often fall short.
“The safety of our crews is tantamount to the success of this industry, where accidents often happen because of unforeseen circumstances in ocean conditions in places where medical treatment is not easy,” says Debora Radtke, American Yacht Agents. “This seems like exactly the thing we need to save lives and help our crews when they need it the most.”
The initial order will allow American Yacht Agents to sell and distribute to hundreds of other companies. The Scan ID 365 technology the crews will be using will also allow for secure document storage and medical note storage, in addition to medical records.
With the contract, the company will be looking to expand its workforce with the hiring of developers, a UI/UX designer with experience in responsive web apps, and a content creator to write user-friendly support materials.
“While this is the first agreement like this, we believe more and more people will be relying on this technology to ensure they receive proper medical help in truly dire situations,” White says. “Every year, more than 100 sailors die from accidents, and more than 1,000 hunters are injured in the woods. This will save lives.”
