New company looks to simplify the treatment of women’s urinary tract infections

Orlando, Fla. (July 31, 2025) One of the most common ailments of women is also one of the simplest to treat – the urinary tract infection. Despite its simplicity, getting treatment is not simple, forcing women to wait to schedule a doctor’s appointment, and spend hours at the office and pharmacy for a basic prescription.

A pair of local doctors has come up with a plan to change that, turning to the UCF Business Incubation Program to help build the business.

“From a woman’s perspective, it’s a real challenge to get treatment for what should be a simple fix,” says Dr. Mauna M. Radahd, co-founder of UTIRX. “Using our service is  simple and easy, and you can go through the whole thing in 10 minutes on your lunch break, as opposed to taking time off work.”

Radahd and her husband, Dr. Arash Rafiei, formed the company in 2021. The two are currently practicing physicians with Rafiei a principal at Advanced Urology Institute in Orange City. Radahd is the owner of Pain Medicine Group, which has locations in Oviedo and Sarasota.

How UTIRX helps women is fairly simple. After visiting the company’s website, a short HIPAA-compliant questionnaire is sent, taking around 10 minutes to complete. The doctors review the questionnaire and, if the patient qualifies, then send a prescription to the patient’s pharmacy.

If a patient answers one of the questions in a way that may signify a more complex issue, the process is stopped and the patient is referred to a physician for treatment. The same is true if the reviewing physician sees any issues indicating complex issues.

There are telehealth options on the market, but those can also be complicated.

“For those platforms, you still have to have a one-on-one conversation with a provider, which takes time from work or whatever activity you’re doing,” says Rafiei. “They are also a lot more expensive.”

UTIRX is already working with patients in Florida to help bring relief for urinary tract infections through its website, UTIRX.com. The goal is to bring on other providers for the review in Florida and then in other states to help UTIRX grow.

“Sometimes the easiest solutions can be the groundwork for a company that can significantly scale and help a lot of people,” says Rafael Caamano, interim director, UCF Business Incubation Program. “We’re excited to have them as part of the incubator family and looking forward to what they can do with this concept.”
