Study shows how Capacitech’s technology helps data centers in multiple ways
Orlando, Fla. (July 6, 2026) – As the demand for data centers continues to grow, Capacitech Energy is showing how its technology makes data centers more efficient and cost-effective.
The company released a scientific white paper that examined how various technologies and solutions, including its C-Link supercapacitor, address imbalances in the cells that form the basis of energy storage systems.
When these cells become imbalanced, there is an increase in the risk of swelling, venting, or rupture in overcharged cells, requiring costly early replacement.
“Supercapacitors are key for data centers because of spikes in power when operating AI data centers, but traditional technologies have significant limitations, including undersized power management systems,” CEO and Founder Joe Sleppy says. “This white paper shows how our technology is 20x faster than the traditional approach, mitigating risk and saving data center operators money.”
Capacitech focuses on making supercapacitor technology practical for and effective in power systems. One of its core offerings is the C-Link supercapacitor module for microgrids, utilities managing distributed energy resources, and large ramping loads and data centers managing AI workload surges.
The white paper outlines the recurring power surges associated with AI workloads, the role and impact of “balancing” circuits in supercapacitor systems, and how Capacitech addresses the shortcomings of traditional designs.

Recently, Capacitech’s high-speed power management system was used in a demonstration project with Sandia National Laboratory, coming to a similar conclusion. The demonstration project reviewed several other innovations from Capacitech in a pilot project with Orlando Utilities Commission, showing Capacitech’s C-Link product line could:
- “Minimize downtime by managing high inrush currents and transient events.
- “Prevent equipment damage by stabilizing voltage, frequency, and power fluctuations (i.e., improve power quality) to reduce stress on batteries and other generation assets.
- “Enable more efficient system designs and simplified microgrid operation.
- “Provide a cost-effective resilience layer with lower lifetime operating costs compared to battery-only approaches.”
“Economically, these characteristics result in a lower system cost (including installation, operation, and maintenance) in dollars per kilowatt and dollars per kilowatt-year, which is highly competitive to other short-duration energy storage technologies,” the Sandia report concluded.
